When it comes to your wedding day, it should be nothing short of perfection. The process of planning should leave you feeling like you’re on cloud nine with alllll the butterflies! Oftentimes though, wedding planning can turn into a stressful process. With all of the moving pieces, and people constantly reaching out to you, it’s understandable why planning one of the most important days of your life can evolve into an undesirable situation.
Over the years of being a wedding photographer, I’ve learned a few tips and tricks along the way on how to make the process more enjoyable. So, today, I wanted to focus on how you can eliminate the stress and keep the focus on the excitement and joy leading up to your big day. Keep on reading for all the tips!
First things first, hire a wedding planner or coordinator! I can’t recommend this enough. Your wedding planner or coordinator will be in charge of all the heavy lifting within wedding planning so you don’t have to. It’s important to have someone educated in the wedding industry that you can go to for any questions you might have. They will guide you in the right direction by choosing the best vendors in your budget! Trust me, wedding planners and coordinators are literally a gift from up above.
It is so, so important that you follow up with your vendors at least a month before the wedding to make sure everything is in check. If not, it will at least leave you a little time to fix things if needed. But, when you get confirmation from your vendors that everything is perfect, you will be at ease! If you have a wedding planner- this is something they can typically take care of for you.
Turn your phone on do not disturb the day before your wedding and the day of your wedding. The do not disturb setting allows you to choose which calls and texts can go through. In this case, that would only be the few people you might need to hear from on your wedding. (Ex: your partner, maid of honor, best man, vendors, etc.) Just be sure to have a point of contact for everyone in case they do need to get a hold of your maid of honor or wedding planner.
Imagine this: you and your partner are saying vows to each other when someone’s phone starts ringing out loud. What a nightmare, am I right?! To prevent that from happening, you can have an unplugged ceremony which means everyone’s devices are to be silenced or off and put away for the duration of the ceremony. It also prevents any guests from taking photos on their phones during the all-important kiss.
When you and your partner are wedding planning, stay organized. Make lists of everything you need to buy, book, and look for. Make due dates for each thing so you can stay on top of it all. Staying organized will be a lifesaver when you think you may forget something or even lose something.

“I was inspired to choose Sierra Dyer Co because her style is slightly whimsical, which I thought would be perfect for our wedding photos. During the ceremony, my mind of honor took my bouquet back to her seat by mistake. Sierra quickly went over to her and quietly directed on the best way to navigate the situation and it was very much appreciated! It felt great to know that she was looking out for us and my guests. I also have minimal experience in front of the camera and I was nervous about posing to get the right shot. Sierra did a great job at talking me and my husband through different poses and we had a great time!”
