For any portrait sessions I do, I like to ask my clients where they want to go for their portraits. I usually ask if they have somewhere sentimental to them. Sometimes they do, sometimes they don’t. When they do, it’s most likely a new place for me. I don’t know what the landscape will be like, or where the light will be best, until I get to the location the day of the session.

When Makayla asked me to take their family portraits, we discussed a few possible locations that she had in mind. (I’m always up to travel to a new place!) She wanted to take them out at her home, but she was worried that their property wouldn’t look good for photos. She even sent me some shots around her house… A photo of their pond, an area of tall grass. I replied right away, saying “This will definitely work!”

I love that I can take, what others might view as a not-so-great location, and make it magical in their gallery. Take a scroll through their gallery to the end where you’ll find some of the images that Makayla sent me while we were planning their location.

Little Ryker was the most smiliest baby I have ever had! He made my job so easy. Didn’t take much for me to get him to cheese.

One of my favorite parts about this session was that Caleb had great suggestions on where he wanted to take some portraits. Like of them sitting on this stump. Giving Makayla a kiss on the forehead while she was holding Ryker… My heart! I gladly took these pose suggestions and helped them bring them to reality.
