Tucked away on fifty acres in Chardon, Ohio, Basil Place wedding venue is exactly the kind of hidden gem that makes for an unforgettable editorial shoot. This private estate venue includes a Manor House and Carriage House for overnight stays, a peaceful 2.5-acre pond, and grounds made for exploring, plus a few unexpected residents: rescued alpacas, pot-bellied pigs, white peacocks, and chickens that give the whole property such a warm, personal feel. It’s the kind of place that already feels like a love story before you even add the details.
A Romantic Fall Editorial at Basil Place Wedding VenueFor this shoot, we leaned into a rich pink and red color palette set against the estate’s fall foliage. The result was romantic without being overly sweet, warm reds and deep pinks playing beautifully off the golden, changing leaves all around the property. It’s a color story that only really works this time of year, and Basil Place’s grounds gave us the perfect backdrop to show it off.
Romantic Portraits and Thoughtful DetailsOur models were an absolute joy to photograph together, stealing glances and quiet moments all around the estate. We caught them cozied up at the reception table too, surrounded by all that texture and color, laughing over candlelight in a way that felt completely natural. The stationery suite was just as detailed, intricate linework and delicate touches that felt every bit as elevated as the rest of the design.
The tablescape brought in even more layers: rich textures, patterns, and color woven through the linens, place settings, and florals. Every detail on that table told part of the same story, from the napkins to the centerpieces overflowing with garden roses and ranunculus.
Statement Florals and Estate PortraitsMy favorite part of the whole shoot might be the ceremony floral installation, a cascading arrangement that flowed right down the steps behind the manor house. It gave us such a dramatic, romantic backdrop for portraits, and honestly, it’s one of the most striking installations I’ve had the chance to photograph. We spent the rest of the afternoon capturing portraits all around the property, using the estate’s architecture and grounds as the perfect complement to all that color and texture.
